DePuy Hip Replacement Claims
Causes of DePuy Hip Replacement Claims
The Pinnacle hip replacement is a total hip replacement. The Pinnacle Hip Replacement is designed and manufactured by DePuy, the makers of the recalled DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip. The DePuy Pinnacle hip replacement system, when used with a metal liner, becomes a metal-on-metal hip device similar to the DePuy ASR and other metal-on-metal designs. This can cause several problems in the body. The problems occur with metal shavings leaching into the body from the constant grinding of the metal joint.
This is because with the metal-on-metal hip design it places a metal femoral head against a metal acetabular cup. The metal surface of the hip ball grinds on the metal surface of the cup throughout the day when the patient is merely walking. The constant friction between the two metal surfaces releases metal ions into the blood, bone, and surrounding tissues. This can result in high levels of the metals in the blood.
As they rub against each other every single time the hip joint moves. Sooner or later, its metal components will fail, sending tiny fragments of toxic metals loose in the bloodstream. This has sometimes caused a condition called metallosis — a form of metal poisoning that caused bone and other tissue death. It could also lead to loosening the device as bone and tissue wore away.
Metal-on-metal versions of the DePuy Pinnacle and DePuy ASR hip implants were blamed for serious complications. A once-promising technology, metal-on-metal hip replacements were marketed as more durable than previous hip implant models
If you or a loved one have suffered from any of the above conditions, or others, as a result of the DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement device or De Puy ASR, you may be entitled to significant financial compensation.
